IB General Information

Located in downtown Colorado Springs, William J. Palmer High School is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer two programs for highly motivated, academically-oriented students. The first of these is the Middle Years Program (MYP). Designed for students in grades 6-10, the MYP is jointly delivered by Palmer and our partner, North Middle School. The Diploma program for high school juniors and seniors offers a rigorous, pre-university curriculum which can result in students earning college credit for their high school work. The IBO describes these two programs as “distinctive yet complementary,” and each has its own approach, requirements, and assessment schemes.

Approximately 375 students are enrolled in the two IB programs at Palmer, which has a student body of about 1850. The IB staff consists of over forty teachers in eight content areas, as well as coordinators for each IB program, two counselors, and a secretary. An active Parent Advisory Board also supports the efforts of our students and staff, which includes editing and publishing our newsletter (available electronically on this website as of late November, 2006).

Admission to the MYP at Palmer High School is by application during the 8th grade year for entry into Grade 9. Palmer sponsors information night for prospective applicants during the fall (See Events for details.) Students who successfully complete Grade 10 of the MYP are eligible to apply for entrance into the Diploma program as 11th graders.

Palmer IB graduates are well prepared for college. The Results page provides year-to-year information on exam results and historical Diploma rates.
